We Won A Good Food Award!

Our Ginger and Hawaiian Chili Shrub is our bestselling, most beloved shrub of all time. We know and love it for adding a healthy boost of prebiotics to our Moscow Mules, spicing up salad dressings, and being the star of any dinner party. Turns out, the folks over at the Good Food Awards love it too, because we won a Good Food Award!

Also known as the Oscars of the food world, the Good Food Awards celebrate the best of sustainable, thoughtful food products. In their own words, “The Good Food Foundation exists to celebrate, connect, empower and leverage the passionate and engaged, yet often overlooked, players in the food system who are driving towards tasty, authentic and responsible food in order to humanize and reform our American food culture.”

We got the chance to go to San Francisco this past weekend to the tenth annual Good Food Awards Ceremony, where we picked up the award for Best Elixir. Michael Pollan, author of The Omnivore’s Dilemma and the Botany of Desire, was the keynote speaker, emphasizing the importance of supporting small businesses and local food as we move into an increasingly globalized society and food system.

Dolores Huerta kicked off the ceremonies with a rousing speech about the power of good food. She’s an activist that has spent a lifetime advocating for farmworker’s rights alongside powerhouses like Cesar Chavez.

“At 89, Dolores Huerta continues to work tirelessly developing leaders and advocating for the working poor, women, and children. She travels across the country engaging in campaigns and influencing legislation that supports equality and defends civil rights. She often speaks to students and organizations about issues of social justice and public policy.”

Of course, we also took in the sights and tastes of the Bay Area, sampling authentic pizzas and exploring Chinatown (and hanging out with Bruce Lee!).

It’s our great honor to be recognized as part of a thoughtful and conscientious community that not only makes delicious cheeses, chocolates, pickles, and more, but also works every day to create a more just and equitable food system. We’re back in Bellingham now, but will continue to do the work that brought us this award in the first place: supporting local farmers, bringing you tasty and healthy elixirs, and enjoying really good food.
