March 22 is World Water Day, and while we should be celebrating, honoring, and protecting water every day of the year, it feels important to take intentional time to think about our relationship with the Earth. Here in Whatcom County, we’re grateful for some of the cleanest air in the world, seasons that nourish fertile agricultural land, and connections with local farmers, legislators, scientists, and teachers who tirelessly advocate for responsibly stewardship of these lands and seas.
And while there are a million things worth praising about Washington State, there’s still so much room for growth when it comes to mitigating the effect that climate change and human activity have on our beloved and essential waterways. That’s why we’re incredibly excited to partner with three amazing local organizations working on behalf of the oceans. On March 20-22 all online Apple State Vinegar sales will go to SeaDoc Society, Puget Soundkeeper, and SR3.
Apple State Vinegar was born from a desire to give back to the place which gives us so much abundance. Our vinegar is made from organic Washington apples, and has 6% acetic acid, which means more probiotics and prebiotics that keep your energy, immunity, and digestion in tip-top shape. We love Apple State Vinegar in all types of culinary creations as well as simply mixed with still or sparkling water. We especially love it mixed in our morning smoothie.
A smoothie is a wonderful way to incorporate a variety of nutrients, vitamins, and enzymes in a single meal. It comes together easily, is satisfying, and always leaves us feeling nourished and ready to take on whatever the day brings. This smoothie is designed to boost immunity and stoke those digestive fires!
We call this the Happy Gut Smoothie for many reasons — the first being that raw apple cider vinegar is great for cultivating a healthy gut microbiome, which can contribute to overall health. The second reason is that it’s a blend of delicious tropical flavors that conjure up white sand beaches and swaying palm trees (and who doesn’t feel happy imagining themselves on a beautiful island?!). And the third is, of course, that Apple State Vinegar is sustainably sourced and dedicated to supporting the health of our land and water (and your health, too!).
So here’s the recipe! It’s a great breakfast, snack, or pre-workout fuel. Enjoy!
