This Thanksgiving, we're feeling grateful for many things. Here in Washington, we have an abundance of food and farmers that keep us nourished throughout the seasons. Autumn is especially delicious, with squash, apples, and greens bursting from every vendor at the farmers market.
We're constantly inspired by the beauty that our local farmers grow, which is why we always head to the kitchen when we want to celebrate. This year, we're celebrating the little things - laughing around the table with our loved ones, a hot cup of tea after an afternoon playing in the rain, and a good meal.
Food is at the heart of Thanksgiving, and this year, we're letting local food shine. Cranberry sauce is a classic, and for good reason. It's the perfect sweet-and-sour accompaniment to heartier dishes, but we've got a recipe so delicious it could easily be a main course.
Cranberries are one of the only fruits native to America, and berries are the pride and joy of the Pacific Northwest. So when we're looking for a recipe to honor the land we love and live on, this is an Apple State favorite.
For Annika (our marketing director extraordinaire), this sauce reminds her of growing up on a little island in Maine, where every autumn she would head to the creeks and bogs and canoe along until she discovered a particularly bountiful cranberry patch.
Together, cranberries and Raspberry and Citrus Shrub are the bright pop of flavor and color that every feast needs. Yes, when we gather around the table this Thanksgiving, we'll probably be eating lots of delicious food. We'll also be lingering in the simple joy of being with our loved ones. We'll be taking a walk around the block - rain or shine - and breathing clean, fresh air. We'll be giving thanks for our health and the health of our community.
Whatever you're grateful for this Thanksgiving, we hope you are able to celebrate it in a way that is truly meaningful to you - whether that's connecting to food traditions from your past, trying a new-to-you local fruit or vegetable, or even enjoying takeout from your favorite restaurant.
And we would be remiss if we didn't take a moment to tell you how grateful we are for you - our customers. We're so incredibly thankful for the individual and community relationships that we've been able to build over the years, strengthening connections with farmers, non-profits, home cooks, bartenders, and environmentalists near and far.
Thank you! And now, without further ado, the dish that will bring your Thanksgiving table all together!...
